OVERVIEW:

Critical to the company’s ongoing targeted growth and profitability, the Employee Benefits Practice Leader (EBPL) is accountable for all aspects of Employee Benefits service within the LAOC Region.

The EBPL is a member of the Region’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and reports directly to the LAOC President. The EBPL is also responsible for incorporating guidelines and practices that are to be implemented throughout the company.

As a member of the SLT, the EBPL has peer relationships with other Lines Of Business and is responsible for working with these leaders to ensure the design and implementation of effective processes and procedures for profitably growing the practice.

The EBPL may have direct reports which include Client Service Managers/Directors, “champions,” or other relatively senior service and sales roles as prescribed.

The EBPL establishes and contributes to a positive culture, promoting HUB’s brand and LAOC’s Core Virtues internally and externally, while maximizing the strengths and capabilities of each individual and the organization as a whole.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

  • Provide a vision and plan for sustained profitable growth of the practice throughout the territory, reflected in an annual budget input complete with commentary regarding economic factors, legislative developments, carriers/markets, and customer segments.

  • Ensure that budget targets for new business sales, retention, and other income are achieved while maintaining appropriate expense controls. While primary accountability rests with the EBPL for results in this line of business, this role maintains a secondary accountability for achievement of results in other lines (working with other leaders) through collaboration, cross-selling, prospecting, and related business development activities.

  • Ensure EB business processes and procedures in the Region are compliant with HUB expectations, follow applicable regulatory guidelines, and minimize the company’s exposure to loss through error and/or omission.

  • Consistent with annual plans, maintain detailed familiarity with periodic financial and production data, able to articulate the basis for deviation from plan and to recommend plan changes mid-term that will improved results. Specific performance monitoring of established sales and service metrics is expected.

  • Serve as the primary contact for the employee benefits team in regards to escalated accounting concerns and directives. This would include monthly revenue discrepancy tracking, compliance with accounting protocols in the region, and facilitating missing revenue research on behalf of the production teams.

  • Promote HUB’s national employee benefits growth and operational initiatives, including the regional roll out of new national initiatives and systems. The EBPL will be accountable to national HUB leadership on tracking and execution of these roll outs as they are launched. The EBPL will also provide monthly and quarterly reporting to the HUB EB national practice on Critical Path compliance, At Loss/Risk reporting and other requirements as desired by the national EB practice.

  • Recruit, train, coach, mentor, and hold accountable individuals who are able to successfully perform in subordinate sales and service roles.

  • Be HUB’s primary representative for the practice in the Region, establishing a conspicuous presence in the community and among key insurance carrier markets. This may include participation community events, service on boards of directors, participation on applicable panels, attendance at trade association meetings, authoring professional articles, interaction with press, and attendance a legislative hearings among other things. Be recognized as a leader and an expert for the practice within the territory.

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of relevant insurance carrier trends, product offerings, compensation arrangements. This should include developing and maintaining productive and close working relationships with key executives associated with these insurance carriers.

  • Develop and maintain a good knowledge of competitor direct or broker facilities, including their sales/service strengths/weaknesses relative to HUB’s. This should include identifying and gaining introduction to key individuals within other organizations who could fit the HUB culture and might recruited at some point.

  • Work with the CSO and other executives in the company to identify and successfully pursue agency and broker acquisitions within the Region in support of profitable growth. This should include a regular allocation of time to meet with principals of such organizations, introducing HUB’s value proposition, and cultivating a relationship that can lead to acquisition.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • At least 10 years of progressive EB insurance experience, the majority of which must be within an agency, brokerage, or consulting firm.

  • Demonstrated track record as a manager and leader who has successfully developed a profitable and well regarded EB insurance sales/service organization, with a proven progressive track record driving results.

  • Hands-on manager – enjoys mentoring and directing staff and management, desires to work alongside producers in the field to help originate and close new business opportunities through personal networks and team based sales.

  • Strong visibility within the territory’s HR and EB carrier community.

  • Able to travel to each office within the LAOC Region and meet with clients, as needed.

  • Highly developed organization and time management skills.

  • Very strong degree of self-motivation.

  • Excellent listening skills.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, including oral and written communications as well as use of electronic media (e.g. MS Outlook tools).
