About the Position

Hub International recognizes that transportation risk management and fleet safety are critical issues for our clients. The Senior Risk Consultant, Transportation Specialist will lead the design and implementation of innovative and leading-edge fleet safety services to ensure the delivery of best-in-class risk analysis, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction programs to our commercial clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Senior Risk Consultant, Transportation Specialist reports directly to the Vice-President – Risk Control Services and will work with HUB risk services team members, sales team members, client service teams, and clients to develop and implement fleet safety, regulatory compliance, and best practice risk reduction programs. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide exceptional service to clients in Canada with ancillary support to clients in the USA and the Transportation Specialty Practice as required.

  • Advise clients on best practices in fleet risk mitigation and safety management strategies.

  • Implement transportation risk management best practices using generally accepted project management and consulting practices.

  • Conduct fleet risk assessments and review fleet safety programs.

  • Develop resources including safety programs, driver handbooks, safety bulletins, and other informational resources as required.

  • Work collaboratively with other HUB risk consultants to ensure client needs are met

  • Consult and advise clients to understand risk management needs and objectives as well as best practices in risk mitigation and safety management strategies.

  • Support the Implementation of risk management and safety best practices using generally accepted project management and consulting practices

  • Support client acquisition and retention activities

  • Conduct management and employee training sessions for clients as needed

  • Conduct loss analysis & trending to identify client focus areas

  • Perform audits and assessments virtually and at client sites

  • Develop and submit clear, concise, and timely reports/correspondence documenting all activities

  • Develop/manage relationships with insurance carrier and vendor partners

  • Provide oversight of insurance carrier loss control activities and fleet safety assessments on client’s behalf.

  • Provide support to the sales and service teams in the region

  • Contribute to special projects as required

Required Experience

  • At least 7 - 10 years of experience as a safety/risk/loss control consultant or technician in the insurance brokerage or carrier environments, or as a risk/safety manager in industry

  • Expertise in Transport Canada regulations is required

  • Strong working knowledge of National and Provincial Regulations and Codes related to the transportation industry, including TDG, is required

  • Experience with telematics and fleet risk technology is required

  • Experience in Transportation subcategories, such as: owned/non-owned fleets, for hire, last mile, vehicle dealers, regulated and non-regulated fleets, rideshare, electric vehicles, and self-driving vehicles, is required

  • Experience in critical crash, accident investigation, and crisis management preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required

  • Risk Management/Loss Control experience in insurance (carrier, wholesale/MGA/MGU, broker/agent) is desirable

  • Experience with Captives is desirable

  • Completion of (or progression towards) professional risk/safety designations is desirable

  • Completion of (or progression towards) the Canadian Risk Management designation is desirable

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills are essential

  • Excellent English language (written and verbal) communication skills are essential; fluency in French is desirable

  • Proficiency with spreadsheet analysis, report writing, and presentation development is essential

  • Must be highly motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision

  • Must be willing and able to travel and work beyond normally scheduled workweek as necessary
