General Description:

The SC Business Development Leader is responsible for the strategic oversight and execution of new business development in South Carolina. This position is a “rainmaker” role and will prospect for business based on networks, connections, and communities. This role is vital to our success in all our product lines: personal, commercial, employee benefits, and other coverages.

This position reports to the President and CEO of Carolinas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, in conjunction with the Carolinas President and CSO, a business plan and sales strategy that ensures attainment of company sales and revenue goals in the region

  • Build and foster a client-centric sales environment that is focused on new business development and relationship development

  • Provide leadership through activities that include but are not limited to:

  • Personal prospecting/sales and “rainmaking” in all lines of business

  • Identification of opportunities for growth within South Carolina by securing new contacts and driving business through the Advisors; routinely makes joint sales calls in conjunction with other Advisors in support of their sales efforts

  • Building and managing a book of business

  • Conducting Win/loss autopsies

  • Ensuring persistent product and service cross-sales

  • Regularly present in/available to offices throughout the territory.

  • Helps strengthen HUB’s sales workforce via recruiting and acquisition

  • Functions as a primary representative for the practice in the territory, establishing a clear presence in the community and among key insurance carrier markets. This may include participation in community events, service on boards of directors, participation on applicable panels, attendance at trade association meetings, authoring professional articles among other things to be recognized as a leader and an expert for the practice within the territory.

  • Work with the President, CSO and other executives in the company to identify and successfully pursue agency and broker acquisitions within the territory in support of profitable growth. This should include a regular allocation of time to meet with principals of such organizations, introducing HUB’s value proposition, and cultivating a relationship that can lead to acquisition.

  • This role will maintain and contribute to a positive culture, promoting HUB’s brand and values internally and externally, while maximizing the strengths and capabilities of each individual and the organization as a whole.

Experience and Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in business (i.e. finance, management), or related field

  • 10 years of sales experience with sales leadership experience preferred

  • Expertise in a client-centric and solution selling approach

  • Strong visibility within the territory’s HR and EB carrier community.

  • Physically able travel extensively by car and/or airplane throughout the territory, occasionally beyond, to carry out responsibilities. This includes a willing commitment of time that can and often does extend well beyond a traditional 40-hour work week and constant availability to others in the organization

Skills and Abilities:

  • Aggressive, passionate, and driven in approach to succeed

  • An understanding of sales processes across all product lines

  • Self-starter who takes initiative and maintains excellent follow-through and follow-up

  • Hands-on manager – enjoys mentoring and direct management of staff, desire to work alongside Advisors in the field to help originate and close new business opportunities through personal networks and team-based sales.

  • Ability to develop high-performance producers by promoting productive attitudes, behaviors, and practices

  • Superior organizational, leadership, time management and communication and listening skills

  • Performs well in a fast-paced environment and can multitask with ease

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as insurance & finance software
