Hub International VP Office of the CIO in Chicago, Illinois

The VP Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is a business, process, and technology minded leader with deep expertise in IT Governance, Portfolio and Demand Management, financial management, continuous process improvement and project management office, plus a superior, service-first-oriented approach in establishing a business focused and performance driven IT culture. The VP OCIO is expected to closely partner with other members of Finance, IT, and operations in nurturing and growing a continuous improvement culture while being focused on delivering exceptional user experience across all service portfolios. The leader is responsible to lead and/or consult around the development and execution of annual operating plan, IT governance roadmap, financial management of operational and capital expenditures and sourcing management across IT. As a member of the IT senior leadership team, the role will contribute to the development and execution of the enterprise wide technology strategy, and ensure it aligns with HUB International’s strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and optimize a strategic technology roadmap for the CIO organization in collaboration with other senior IT leaders based on organizational direction and strategy

  • Provides thought leadership in Information Technology and Services planning, operations, and efficiency improvements

  • Facilitate CIO Committee review and approval of Technology Policies and Standards

  • Responsible and accountable for developing an annual operating plan for the CIO organization that will meet current and future business goals

  • Review current processes across demand management, PMO and financial management and establish a portfolio driven IT management framework to manage IT as a business

  • Develop and implement an insight driven framework built on the premise of ‘Balanced Scorecard’ across metrics, dashboards to demonstrate business problems, solutions, benefits and accurate decisions

  • Develop and institutionalize Service Level Agreements (SLA) for both internal services provided to field and for external services consumed

  • Lead the financial reporting, forecasting and optimization of technology spend by collaborating with senior IT leaders within the CIO organization, and in close partnership with Finance leaders.

  • Conducts business service reviews with IT functional leaders to identify areas of improvement and establish plans for continuous improvement

  • Lead the PMO team to ensure timely execution and delivery of technology projects while implementing best in class project management concepts and processes to improve efficiency.

  • Acts as a trusted advisor and builds and maintains relationships with other IT leaders and HUB field executives to develop a clear understanding of business needs; ensures cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs and can respond with agility to changing industry priorities

  • Collaborate with the CIO to set the mission and vision for the department to foster a business-first service oriented high-performance culture

  • Works with HR and the IT leadership team to develop a “people strategy” that aligns with the enterprise and IT strategy

  • Forecasts future skill needs to acquire and develop an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies that balance between growing the agility required to achieve digital business objectives while continuing to deliver an impeccable end-user experience

  • Leads the sourcing strategy for IT and partners with Procurement to develop and implement a 3rd party rationalization program

  • Collaborates with learning and development to implement communication, training and change management

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems / Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • 15+ years of experience in Information Technology roles and 8+ years in IT leadership roles

  • Strong project, program and portfolio management, organizational, planning and coordination skills

  • Experience developing IT strategy, roadmap and managing to an annual operating plan

  • Financial planning and analysis and or a Finance background or exposure is a plus

  • Experience managing complex budgets, analytics, forecasting, and other financials

  • Demonstrable experience building and forming functional teams with strong leadership skills

  • Team player at executive levels and in collaborating with business units and functional partners such as IT, Finance, HR and Sourcing Partners, etc.

  • Demonstrated capability in analytical skills, metrics and measurements

  • Demonstrated ability to influence while maintaining positive business relationships

  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives with measurable benefits and outcomes

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills and comfortable interacting with all levels of management

  • PMP, ITIL v3 and Agile/Scrum certifications are preferable

  • Preferably proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex, hyper growth and dynamic environments

  • Insurance Industry experience is a plus
