Hub International VP, Engineering - Remote in Chicago, Illinois

We are looking for a VP of Engineering leader to lead our application development teams through an exciting next phase of digital growth at HUB International. The VP, Engineering role will be charged with leading our digital application development teams with strong partnership with the SVP, Transactional Lines Product owner, VP of Technical Product, internal Business Partner Management, and PMO functions. They will bring expertise in nurturing and growing a high performing team and a track record of success in building and delivering digital products that customers love. This role will be empowered to build and drive the maturity of our internal and external application development practice as it builds and expands into the next evolution of a 21st century digital brokerage, with a passionate focus on providing protective solutions for both consumers and small business owners.

In this role, you are passionate about our mission to enable acquisition, service, and advice however customers prefer and enable maximum capacity for growth across all HUB distribution channels.

You will thrive in our fast-paced environment, be an expert collaborator, and a master of enabling employees to have autonomy and impact. This position reports into Chicago and can be based remotely anywhere in the U.S.

In This Role, You’ll Get To

  • Lead all aspects of application design and implementation

  • Lead all engineering activities and engineering excellence, instilling SDLC best practices to enable scale and predictable delivery

  • Evolve and scale the complete front- and backend technological architecture to meet the product vision

  • Design, implement and monitor all operations and essential performance metrics/operational efficiency for the engineering teams

  • Ability to manage a dual Python/React and .NET stack and team structure

  • Recruit and lead a team of engineering leads, engineering managers, and engineers

  • Design organizational structure and talent architecture to develop and retain engineering talent

  • Effectively team with the critical enablers of Data Management, QA, DevOps, InfoSec, Technology Partnerships

  • In partnership with the VP of Technical Product, define and evolve the definition to own and outsource to near/offshore where appropriate

  • Manage 3rd party vendors

  • Collaborate with the SVP, Transactional lines Product Owner, VP of Technical Product Owner, business partner management, and our Agile sprint teams to drive the implementation of high quality application design and capability.

  • Iterate on the existing effectiveness of the organization, making the hard decisions to enable our team to capitalize on opportunities to the positive impact our customer experience

  • Understand upcoming technology trends and how they impact the Digital Transaction Lines Roadmap

  • Assess and address technical risks related to the digital platform.

  • Facilitate the creation and maintenance of proper technical product documentation

We Are Looking for Someone Who Has the Following Competencies

  • Strong inter-team collaboration between various technical, business, Marketing, and IT teams

  • Bring vision, energy, passion, commitment, and high quality management

  • Ability to operate in a dedicated Agile sprint process

  • Ability to drive continued innovation in thinking, requirements, and delivered capabilities

  • Extensive experience in leading delivery teams in agile software development practices and DevOps

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and building microservices architectures and development

  • Advanced knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and designing for performance, scalability, and availability

  • Drive and implement an API lead development architecture

  • An inspirational, collaborative mindset with demonstrated success in delivering solutions that are loved by customers

  • The ability to both set a vision and execute on a strategy and to roll up their sleeves and get into the details when necessary.

  • Experience effectively communicating strategic objectives and action plans to multiple teams across a variety of functions
