POSITION SUMMARY:

HUB’s commitment to leveraging diversity, equity and inclusion (“DEI”) and community engagement are key components of our Guiding Principles and Focus on our People strategic pillar. We are partnering company-wide to execute an authentic and realistic DEI strategy that will create a formative and sustainable direction that is aligned with HUB’s vision and mission. This work will inform our community engagement efforts, too.

To guide our efforts, we have engaged a renowned DEI expert, Karen Brown, founder of Bridge Arrow Consulting. She is actively working with HUB’s executive leadership, bringing her expertise and experience, to help us in this important work. And, we are excited to bring on, as a critical member of our leadership team, our VP, D&I.

As the head of our DEI work, you will serve as a catalyst leading strategic and programmatic DEI work with our field and corporate teams, to understand, learn, build, and drive HUB’s work company-wide. Your leadership will help us accelerate work already in progress and drive forward with sustainable and authentic actions for our employees and our company.

This senior leadership level role and member of our Executive Committee (ECM) will lead the DEI “practice” working closely with Corporate, Regional and Field Leadership to direct, coordinate and develop initiatives and practices that align local DEI efforts with the overarching company-wide business strategy. You will serve as a center of excellence for coaching, advice and expertise.

The successful candidate will be an innovator who will partner with our HR leaders to bring a DEI lens to all our employee experience/people practices including talent attraction and recruitment, onboarding, development, performance management, recognition and rewards. Further, you will partner with Sales leadership, Corporate Marketing, Corporate Sales, Procurement, M&A and more to advance HUB on its DEI journey.

The head of DEI will have oversight and will be responsible for the reporting of corporate DEI metrics, identification and resolution of issues that are likely to impede progress on key initiatives, and leadership of initiatives that are integral to the achievement of goals and achieve desired outcomes. An important focus of the role is internal change management, and this leader will also represent the organization externally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the DEI leader who governs the organization’s DEI strategic plan, this leader will possess outstanding strategy development and communications skills as well as the ability to develop creative solutions through collaboration. While the following areas of responsibility should be anticipated, the successful candidate should be prepared to play an active role in building and shaping the agenda over time, starting with partnering with our external consultant, CHRO and EMT to complete our research and discovery work to inform the focus and priorities.

  • Work with the Executive Management Team, ECM and Regional Leaders, to architect and direct the implementation of the enterprise-wide DEI strategy, including a clearly articulated mission, guiding principles, goals, priorities and metrics for the next 3-5 years.

  • Provide advice and guidance on the best approaches to produce strategic and sustainable results in support of DEI goals and objectives and develop criteria to measure and assess the success, value and impact of such programs and actions.

  • Fluently engage with and influence partners at all levels across the organization in the planning and execution process.

  • Partner with key internal stakeholders to identify key industry trends and market dynamics to optimize strategic decisions, as well as collaborate to conduct research and data collection, analysis, and recommendations for strategic opportunities.

  • Facilitate and drive DEI standard methodologies across the organization to advance organizational capability in this area.

  • Develop strategic tactical approaches for the creation and effective adoption of DEI and related programs and work with active Employee Resource Groups, Culture Committees as well as DEI Councils at the office and HUB levels.

  • Support our established philanthropic program, “HUB Gives”, and evolve and enhance this and other community partnerships and programs in support of the overall DEI strategy and our Focus on our People pillar.

  • Serve as a center of expertise and advisor for Regional, Local and Functional Leaders. Partner with executive leaders to ensure the implementation and advancement of DEI as core values and strategic lever for people and business needs.

  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and work closely with Regional, Local and Functional leaders to assess and prioritize potential gaps, define needs and embed DEI into existing processes, practices, policies and procedures.

  • Take an active leadership role to ensure existing strategic external DEI partnerships are engaged in a robust way to maximize benefits and, where needed, identify additional partnerships for HUB. You will advise on how to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with external partners and professional organizations, and at times represent the organization and HUB’s brand at appropriate venues.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in designing and leading successful DEI programs either as a consultant or internally.

  • Experience with strategy development and change management.

  • Demonstrated experience successfully engaging with senior executives and leadership teams (C-suite level).

  • Experience leading DEI strategy work outside of the U.S. (especially in Canada).

  • Proficient in designing and using analytics – able to harness and use data to make and guide informed decisions.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university, leading to a bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. A higher degree, in a related field is desired.

  • Experience working in a commercial role and/or leading DEI in the business is preferred.

  • Structured training in DEI or appropriate experience in the broad domains of DEI are sought.
