The Technical Communication Specialist will be responsible for documenting and publicizing the development of all enterprise-grade projects and product solutions from conception to completion. Working similar to a technical writer, you will create clear, and accurate technical development documentation of all enterprise-grade products while acting as a subject matter expert to train and guide end-users on the “how-to” of those products. This position is a key role that facilitates development process improvement across the Data and Analytics organization.

Job Overview – Technical Communications Specialist

HUB International is rapidly expanding our digital product offerings and technology solutions and is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, critical thinker and problem solver to support mission-critical, enterprise-changing programs and projects to support our strategic goals.

The Technical Communications Specialist plays a key role in producing technical documentation and content that helps our product owners and stakeholders achieve their business goals with our innovative Microsoft Power Platform products. In this role, you are expected to develop trusted partnerships with product managers, data engineers, and MS Power Platform developers in a scrum/Agile development environment to produce technical documentation, training guides, interactive training, and videos for business owners, product managers, users, and developers that contribute to the design, delivery, and end-user adoption of technology-enabled business solutions.

As a Technical Communications Specialist, you will rely on your experience and judgment to manage and accomplish the goals of multiple, concurrent strategic and operational initiatives. You’ll demonstrate a mindset of critical thinking, continuous improvement, and self-direction. A wide degree of creativity and latitude to achieve these goals is expected. Additionally, you may provide analytical, organizational, and coordination expertise to support strategic programs, critical initiatives, and business objectives as needed.

In This Role, You’ll Get To:

  • Design and write operational, instructional manuals dedicated to the end-user experience.

  • Gather relevant technical information by researching, observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

  • Write technical documentation to illustrate and illuminate the intricate technical development necessary for the build of each product.

  • Translate sophisticated technical documentation into easily ingestible training documents and MS Stream videos per enterprise product developed.

  • Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, data visualizations developers and product managers on cross-functional teams all while developing subject matter expertise in business communication and technical writing.

  • Transform verbal information into clearly written procedures and training guides.

  • Document product version control and product cataloging.

  • Create press releases to inform key stakeholders of new products and/or enhancements to current products.

  • Organize and manage our SharePoint site for organizational engagement and outreach.

We want someone who has:

  • At least 2 years of experience working with technical documentation.

  • Experience working directly with data and analytics development teams on products for a technical audience, such as developers, DevOps, IT professionals, engineers, or data scientists.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, collaborate, and communicate proficiently (both verbally and in writing) with internal and external teams, across all layers of the organization, including virtual team members across multiple time zones.

  • Experience and comfort presenting to business and executive stakeholders, with the ability to adjust the message to the audience and explain complex concepts in easily understood ways.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills through diplomacy, empathetic listening, and trustworthiness and maintaining user confidence.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand business models quickly.

  • Robust organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Working knowledge of data and analytics solutions, MS Power Platform, service offerings, and current trends.

  • Highly skilled with MS Excel, Visio, MS Stream (or equivalent), Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Miro/Lucidcharts, and Azure DevOps, or competitive platforms.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard methodologies and models (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.) and experience with process management processes & tools.

  • Insurance background is a plus.

  • Desire to learn.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Required Experience: 2+ years of technical documentation.

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4-year degree) in Business, Communications, or equivalent work experience.

  • OR Relevant certifications from Microsoft or competitive platforms.

  • Required Travel: 1-4x per year to meet with team for team building week.

  • Full-Time.

  • Exempt.

  • 100% Remote.

This position reports into Chicago and can be based anywhere in the U.S. or Canada (i.e., remote/virtual).

Although hybrid to a local HUB office is desirable, this position is open to remote candidates.

Disclosure required under applicable municipal regulations in NY and NJ, as well as the law in Colorado: The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
