Hub International Manager, EUC Engineering in Chicago, Illinois

The Manager, End User Computing Engineering is accountable for end user computing technology standards including VDI and endpoint hardware, OS, and management. This important leadership role manages a team of engineers that plan and build HUB International’s end-user computing environment. The team works closely with Operations teams and evaluates new technologies, tools, and processes supporting 16,000+ users. The manager will champion modernization projects, continuous improvement, and problem management efforts to enhance the end-user computing experience with focus on stability, performance, and usability. Every HUB user’s computing experience and productivity will be impacted by the individual in this role.

Note: This position is remote and can be anywhere in the US, with occasional travel to Chicago.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of VDI and Desktop engineers to deliver a cost-effective, scalable, highly available end-user computing environment.

  • Develop and maintain end-user computing standards and asset lifecycles, including retirement of legacy assets, evaluation and testing of upgrades, and implementation of new solutions to monitor, manage, and support enterprise-scale desktop and VDI environments.

  • Lead End-user computing technical project delivery.

  • Develop work plans, resource, time, and cost estimates for all end-user computing projects and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Develop metrics and KPIs to allow for reporting of capacity, performance, and up-time of systems.

  • Stay up to date on industry trends and become internal subject matter expert and solutions consultant on end-user computing

  • Participate in major incident reviews, assisting in the identification of root cause and remediations needed to permanently restore service.

  • Mentor and train individuals on best practices, troubleshooting, and automation.

  • Act as senior escalation point for assigned technologies, providing support to other engineering and operations team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 5-7 years of senior level enterprise experience and a minimum of 4 years' experience managing a team of resources to deliver end- user computing capabilities with the following technologies:

  • Required

  • Strong leadership skills with ability to see projects and initiatives through to completion.

  • Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify new opportunities and technical methods to solve business problems.

  • Experience building and managing a large (10,000+ users) virtual desktop environment and experience with Windows Image and Patch management

  • Desktop as a Service, such as AWS Workspaces or Azure Virtual Desktop.

  • Citrix Virtual Desktops, including on-premises, cloud hosted, and Citrix Cloud components

  • Citrix ADC

  • Windows (10,11), macOS

  • Active Directory and Azure AD

  • Microsoft SCCM and Intune endpoint management

  • Group Policy

  • Desktop and Laptop hardware (Lenovo, Microsoft, Apple)

  • Office 365 – Outlook, Teams, and other Office clients

  • Preferred

  • Nutanix HCI (Nutanix hardware, Acropolis Hypervisor)

  • Microsoft Windows Server (2016, 2019)

  • Digital Experience Monitoring tools such as Liquidware and Nexthink for baseline user experience focused KPIs and metrics.

  • Microsoft and other industry certifications.
