Hub International HR Compliance Manager - REMOTE in Chicago, Illinois

The Corporate HR team provides business partner support to all corporate functions at HUB International and also drives enterprise-wide strategic initiatives for the company. This role will report into the VP of Corporate HR and Compliance and will be the primary internal SME and connector on HR Compliance at HUB.

As the Compliance Manager , you’ll play a leadership and hands on role to champion a compliance framework that empowers leaders and employees to do their best while complying with national, state, and provincial regulatory requirements. In partnership with the field HR teams and corporate HR, the role will build a playbook, design policies and practices, and drive execution of Human Resources compliance initiatives across the US and Canada. The successful candidate for will bring a passion for identifying and assessing regulatory and human resources legal risks, building trust with HR stakeholders across functions and business groups, and driving clarity on risk mitigation priorities that will support organizational success. The role will have a mix of strategic, partnering, and day to day responsibilities supporting the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Partnerships :

  • Lead the HR Compliance Council and collaborate to drive key compliance projects.

  • Build partnerships and influence with HR, Marketing, Legal, and Risk COEs, as well as leaders in the US and Canada.

  • Identify and partner with external vendors and resources to create, implement, and maximize the company’s use of compliance expertise and tools.

  • Work with HR business partners, legal, and organizational leaders to identify solutions, propose next steps and partner with key stakeholders on the implementation process.

  • Share information and tools with HR and legal in a timely fashion to facilitate and drive compliance with local, state, provincial, and federal requirements.

HR Compliance and Regulatory Champion

  • Advocate for risk management and compliance in all Human Resources initiatives.

  • Design a platform to communicate and disseminate important compliance information to key stakeholders.

  • Keep up with the latest regulatory and compliance trends, best practices, and requirements in both the US and Canada to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Partner with the field to facilitate the development, review, update, and drive execution of the company's federal, provincial, state, and local HR compliance and safety policies and programs.

  • Research and analyze data and prepare reports on compliance initiatives and outcomes.

  • Provide expert guidance related to HR compliance during Merger and Acquisition activities.

  • Participate and represent Human Resources in HUB’s compliance community and in external compliance communities.

Training and Education

  • Update the field and partner with HR teams and external vendors like Skillsoft to ensure all annual employee and manager training obligations are met including but not limited to EEO, FMLA/ADA, OFCCP, OADA, WorkSafeBC, Human Rights, Workplace Violence, Health & Safety Canada, OSHA, etc.

  • Serve as a trusted partner and resource to HR and leadership team members to increase awareness, educate, and partner to create processes that reduce compliance risk.

  • Create and/or leverage vendor resources to offer educational opportunities to upskill HR, leaders, and employees and bring awareness on compliance topics.

  • Serve as the SME on HR compliance and regulatory topics by offering counsel and coaching in complex employee relations topics including whistleblower hotline complaints.

  • Leverage resources including the Center for Workplace Compliance (US) and HRDownloads (Canada) to stay up to date on legislation and appropriately update HR and leaders.

  • Provide compliance guidance and build expertise for all 50-States and all Provinces in Canada, including but not limited to state and province specific employment law, leave of absences, voting leave requirements, paid sick and safe time, etc.

  • Create, design, and provide training, tools, and resources that can be leveraged by HR and other key stakeholders.

Risk and Compliance Reporting

  • Support continuous improvement of Risk & Compliance reporting that enables HUB to meet its regulatory obligations across US and Canada.

  • Ensure regulatory submissions are completed and regularly audit for timeliness and quality.

  • In partnership with corporate and field HR, responsible for execution and auditing of mandated compliance activities including compliance training.

  • Create a compliance scorecard to regularly share with executives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has at least five years of direct experience conducting and leading HR compliance activities including regulatory submissions and managing policies and programs to maintain compliance with federal, provincial, state, and local laws.

  • 8+ years of work experience with a combination of the following: Project management, compliance, legal, HR or Business Operations, HR business partnering.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Risk Management, or related fields.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Proven ability to interact, present and influence at all levels in the organization.

  • Excellent organizational, project management, and leadership skills.

  • Collaborative team member who will thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment with constantly changing priorities.

  • Successful track record of leading and implementing enterprise scale compliance initiatives.

  • Ability to solve routine or complicated problems effectively to drive projects to completion.

  • Adaptable and flexible in a variety of situations.
