Hub International Director, IT Vendor Management in Chicago, Illinois

At HUB International the Director - IT Vendor Management will develop strategies and implement best practices for managing global relationships with service providers performing outsourced IT services (including software and hardware). This role will execute strategic plans that enable the CIO, senior IT leadership and internal business partner teams to optimize the relationships and performance of vendors. This role will help manage provider performance, establish governance cadence, ensure delivery of outsourced IT services and track continuous improvement efforts.

Primary Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Partner with the CIO, senior IT leadership and key internal business stakeholders to ensure outsourced IT services are meeting business needs and provide measurable input into the overall business strategy.

  • Collaborate with Technology leads, business partners, financial managers, and vendors to implement consistent operational, business, risk and commercial processes across HUB.

  • Participate as core member the IT team (Technology/BU Leadership, Finance, Legal, Procurement) to actively participate in discussions on and negotiate with outsourced IT services contract RFPs. Provide thought leadership on vendor motivations, strategic plans and market challenges to develop effective negotiation strategies.

  • Partner with IT and other organizational business units to develop the global IT outsourcing strategy and ensure strategic outsourcing objectives are aligned with overall strategic goals.

  • Work with IT to build the IT Governance Framework for our key suppliers which should include scope, meeting cadence, attendees, and key inputs/outputs as appropriate and determined by HUB’s vendor segmentation model.

  • Anticipate potential issues with vendors viability and develops a risk portfolio plan. Ensure the provider portfolio is managed in alignment with risk tolerance and contract specifications for outsourced IT services. Act as an escalation point for dispute resolution with vendors.

  • Develop processes to review and assess provider performance through regular performance evaluations. Upon analysis of performance and other related data, documents, work with IT and the business to develop and implement action plans to mitigate business risks. Take immediate measures to address metrics outside of established company standards.

  • Advise on best practices for managing provider relationships (supplier relationship management), including outsourced relationships, and leverage best practices to improve the value of delivery of outsourced IT services through a cycle of continuous improvement. Work with IT and other organizational business units to create strategies and processes to manage compliance. Create the visibility and accountability that ensures productivity and innovation where appropriate.

  • Some additional responsibilities:

  • Ensure the integrity of the commercial model for deals

  • Manage any re-pricing, making use of existing contractual mechanisms for cost/price change

  • Verify any scope change or extension is commercially optimized

  • Verify proposals and requests for service responses against contractual terms and conditions as well as propose the most appropriate solution for the business unit

  • Facilitate commercial optimization of the contract by making use of contractual levers to limit or reduce cost and by educating HUB on the contractual mechanisms

  • Function as the lead negotiator for all amendments, contract interpretations, new services and any other issues requiring contractual resolution

  • Facilitate contract audits (e.g., billing, standards compliance, service delivery).

  • When required, develop and mentor staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; create and maintain employee morale and motivation; ensure the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Legal or related discipline is required

  • MBA or related graduate preferred

  • Contract Management Certification (IACCM/WorldCC or similar)

  • 7-10 years’ experience managing complex global IT contracts and relationships, or experience as an IT vendor managing customer accounts and relationships.

  • Experience leading large/technically complex sourcing events and contract negotiations for Information Technology and/or Digital initiatives.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle a large volume of contracts and sourcing events under tight deadlines

  • Experience leading and documenting contracting and sourcing events through an auditable process.

  • Experience in negotiating technology agreements for Hardware, Software, ASP/SaaS, Cloud, Hosting and Professional Services

  • Ability to analyze commercial terms to ensure HUB obtains optimal value on transactions.

  • Ability to analyze and draft commercial terms to ensure HUB achieves the optimal value and risk protections on transactions.

  • Working knowledge of current IT technologies across a wide variety of areas

  • Proven ability to understand vendor motivation factors and sales lifecycle.

  • Demonstrated capability to bridge communications between the IT organization and its business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management

  • This position reports into Chicago and can be based anywhere in the U.S. (i.e. remote/virtual).
