Hub International Business Consultant, Benefits, Retirement and Private Wealth-Remote in Chicago, Illinois

The Business Consultant will provide subject matter and thought leadership to employee benefits and retirement & private wealth business functions. This experienced contributor is expected to develop trusted partnerships with business leaders and provide variety of business analysis capabilities that contribute to the design and delivery of technology enabled business solutions, including process re-engineering, gap analysis, and requirements definition. Work with the business functions to simplify, standardize, automate, and share operational processes and workflows, through an ongoing learning and development loop of operationalizing, optimizing, and transforming. This key role will establish trust through relationship building and collaboration, both within IT and business functions. A candidate must rely on experience and judgment to manage and accomplish the goals of multiple strategic and operational initiatives concurrently. A wide degree of creativity and latitude to achieve these goals is expected.

Priorities for the role include:

  • Provide thought leadership; stay current on insurance industry trends and HUB's enterprise strategy

  • Work with PMO and Business Partner Team to help build out IT solution roadmaps

  • Determine operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats

  • Manage and execute the creation and delivery of strong business requirements as well as functional requirements

  • Articulate business needs to document current state processes and support the documentation and implementation of new operational processes

  • Facilitate requirements elicitation; capture requirements in formal deliverables; prioritize; document user stories, build and manage backlogs

  • Responsible for understanding the project design, maintaining required artifacts to create an implementation plan and put it into practice

  • Present to variety of audiences, including executives, project teams, vendors, customers

  • Provide business input to the technical team by understanding upstream/downstream impacts and testing

  • Responsible for troubleshooting issues/defects, ability to analyze data and to present analysis in a format that is relatable to interested parties

  • Maintain user confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential

  • Conduct insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues

  • Identifies impact of application changes to the affected users, current workflows, and external business environment (i.e. Carrier Systems, Upgrade/updates to enterprise applications).

  • Performs system and functional verification tests for upgrades and updates; coordinates user acceptance testing; reviews test results with users and obtains user approvals.

  • Fostering the culture of change within the business by visiting operation facilities and developing trusted relationships


  • Business domain knowledge in employee benefits and/or retirement & private wealth

  • Hands-on knowledge of Domain applications (e.g. BenefitPoint, Zywave, Work Smart, Epic, Retirement/Wealth platforms) is preferred but not required

  • Insurance brokerage operations knowledge is preferred

  • 4+ Years of experience directly working as a B.A., facilitating requirements sessions with business stakeholders, documenting user stories, prioritizing features backlog; etc.

  • Fluent in methodologies and templates used for both agile and waterfall

  • Familiarity and experience with project management processes & tools

  • Great relationship builder; record of building trust with critical stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal communications ability with empathetic listening skills

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

  • Negotiation and Diplomacy through solid interpersonal skills

  • High aptitude with Industry standard methodologies and models (waterfall, Rapid Application Development, SCRUM, Kanban, etc.)

  • High aptitude with tools such as Visio, Atlassian Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Strong business acumen; ability to understand business models quickly

  • Familiar with design thinking

  • Familiar with business case development

  • Due to the nature of this position, you may be required to work outside regular business hours
