Hub International Underwriter, Personal Lines in Burnaby, British Columbia


As an Underwriter & Personal Lines Assist you will be a resource to the Insurance Advisors for both our head office and our Community Branch Network. This role will provide day to day support to the management of all personal insurance including underwriting. We are seeking an individual with exceptional client service skills to join our Burnaby Still Creek head office location in a regular full time position.

Our Burnaby Still Creek head office location is centrally located in the Willingdon Business Park near Brentwood Town Centre. This location is easily accessible by the Gilmore sky train station with many shops, restaurants and other amenities nearby.

As an Underwriter & Personal Lines Assist you will:

  • Support field Insurance Advisors with questions regarding quotes, Broker Management System and Carrier Portals.

  • Assist team with submissions to specialty markets (such as Cansure):

  • Gather the information from the Insurance Advisors

  • Presenting risk to Cansure and receive quote

  • Prepare quote for Insurance Advisor to present to client.

  • Act as a resource on quote submissions

  • Expert and resource in Cansure Portal

  • Assist with the underwriting inbox and quires

  • Including complex or escalated submissions

  • Underwriting for in-house Lloyds business (including appraisals)

  • Execute profitability and growth strategies of the Lloyds book of business in Duck Creek

  • Assist with daily coaching & training of Insurance Advisors and onboarding of new hires

  • Assist and participate in development and delivering training material

  • Identify & propose training


As the successful candidate, you will bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Personal Lines role

  • Level 2 General Insurance License

  • Experience with using variety of Carrier Portals and Broker Management Systems

  • Good communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Intermediate understanding of specialty risks

  • Experience and passion in training and coaching

  • Understanding of claims reporting and working with escalations

  • Has strong technical insurance knowledge of coverages

  • Confident to work independently without supervision

  • Superior client service, presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Work well in a fast paced, client-focused environment

  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office knowledge, with focus on Excel and Word
